The game has 19 terrain hexes.  They are surrounded by ocean.  Each of the different types of terrain produces a different type of resource.  These resources consist of wool, ore, brick, lumber or grain.  No resources are produced by the desert hex.

Essentially players use resources to build roads along the edges of these hexes, cities or settlements on the intersections where three hexes intersect.  When the game begins each player has two roads and two settlements.

The roll of dice by each player causes certain hexes to produce resources.  You will collect these resources if you have a settlement on one of them.

When it becomes a player’s turn, they will use various combination of the resources they acquired to build new roads and settlements.  Or perhaps upgrade settlements to cities or purchase development cards.
